Title: Celebrating Dad with Love (Not Money): Our Frugal Father’s Day
Published on June 14, 2025 by Melissa
Father’s Day can be hard when money’s tight. There have been years I wished I could do more—buy something big or treat my husband to a fancy day out. But I’ve come to realize the best celebrations in our home are the ones filled with thought, not things. Plus, as a one income household I’ve always felt so awkward buying him things with his own money.
Here’s how we do Father’s Day with heart and very little money:
Homemade Gift Ideas
- Picture Frames – Grab some wooden frames and craft supplies from the dollar store, and let the kids imaginations run wild! Print out your kids favorite photos with Dad (try the library for free printing!) and put it in the frame! Perfect for a desk decoration.
- Handprint art – always a hit. Make art to go on the fridge or turn it into a personalized card.
- Coupon books – good for help with chores, movie night picks, or a back rub.
- An All about Dad interview – Take a video of your kids answering this questions. You usually end up with some cute and hilarious responses.
The Day’s Plan
- Let him sleep in (or try to—kids are kids!)
- Give him the homemade cards and gifts we’ve been secretly working on
- To the park with the kids. He loves spending time with them especially outside.
- To a baseball game! We were offered tickets to a local minor league team’s game and we’ve never been to a game, so we said yes!
We usually end the day with a dinner made with love. It’s not glamorous, but it’s intentional—and I’ve found that’s what matters most.
To all the moms out there wondering if they’re doing “enough,” I see you. Love doesn’t come with a price tag. ❤️
