Cleaning Rhythms for Summer

Published on July 4, 2025 by Melissa

When the sun is high and the days are long, I don’t want to spend hours scrubbing baseboards. But I also know that some rhythm keeps my space feeling grounded and . So in summer, I shift to a lighter, looser cleaning flow.

Here’s what that looks like:

Daily Touchpoints

  1. Dishes
  2. Wipe counters + table
  3. Quick floor sweep
  4. Make the bed
  5. One laundry load

These are my bread and butter, the things that help the house not fall apart completely and the things that we need every day.

Weekly Tasks

  1. Monday: Reset the house. Organize the kids rooms, put away laundry from the weekend, clean the bathrooms.
  2. Tuesday: “big” laundry: Linens, blankets, sofa cushion covers.
  3. Wednesday: Mop day (this usually happens after kids are in bed now that my oldest no longer naps)
  4. Thursday: Bedrooms: organize, wipe desks/dust, vacuum.
  5. Friday: Fridge/stove/kitchen deep clean.
  6. Saturday: Deep clean one thing (rotates)
  7. Sunday: My day off! I will run the dishwasher at night

Summer doesn’t demand perfection, especially if you have kids home from school and it feels like your daily rhythm is thrown off. Keeping yourself organized will help you feel like you’re not rushing from one mess to another. Kids are more regulated when we are more regulated (an our partners are probably grateful for our inner peace too!). It’s FAR too hot this summer to be fighting our surroundings, so I hope that this example will help keep you organized through these hot months.
